A couple days ago, I mentioned that I would be checking in on the hive when I got home to see what the progress was on the honey supers I added a few weeks ago. Well, I did and boy was I amazed at the progress the bees had made! Both supers were about 80% full of honey. The top super was a little less full than the next one down, but Michelle and I were super excited to finally have something to show for the work we have been putting in out there. Here are a couple of pictures from the frames of honey that we took from the hive.

You can see the honey down in the cells that is uncapped at the bottom of the picture above. This honey can still, from what I understand ‘go bad’, however the honey cells which are capped with the white substance that is seen in both pictures is sealed and will virtually keep forever. We plan to extract the honey tonight and put it into jars.

We are hoping to add another three to five hives next spring to ensure ample honey flow for both personal use and for sale within the community. This is a very exciting prospect. Until next time!
